With award-winning desserts like Tennessee Whiskey Bundt Cake, it’s no surprise that Mama Pug’s Sensational Desserts is now opening a brick-and-mortar location.

It was that bundt cake that won Tommie Marshall the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church’s “A Taste of the Blvd.” Men’s Cook-Off back in 2018.

And that cookoff win helped him launch his baked goods mobile dessert truck, Mama Pug’s Sensational Sweets.

Fast forward almost five years later, Marshall’s dream of opening a bakery has become a reality. The new Mama Pug’s Sensational Sweets bakery opened April 19 at 8046 Willow Tree Lane in Cordova.

The bakery is named after Marshall’s grandmother.

“She and my aunts taught me how to bake when I was 11, and I turn 50 this year,” said Marshall, who is originally from Jackson, Tennessee. “My pie recipes are from my grandmother Mama Pug and my aunts were the cake makers.”

Tommie Marshall, owner of Mama Pug's Sensational Sweets, began his business ten years ago as a food truck and has now opened a brick-and-mortar location, Monday, April 18, 2022, in Memphis.

What to expect

To start, Marshall will serve his signature bundt cakes. Each of the flavors of the nine featured cakes will be available in his signature “single-serving” size, as well as in a traditional larger-sized cake.

Expect cake flavors like the Pink Pantha (a strawberry cake with fresh lemon juice and pink lemonade vodka in the icing), Sock It To Me (a golden cake studded with pecans and cinnamon) along with a super moist Red Velvet.
