Walmart Express delivery began as a complement to Walmart’s existing delivery service, which was launched in 2018. Express delivery debuted in mid-2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic spurred more consumers to opt for online grocery shopping and delivery rather than in-person shopping . The Express service promises deliveries within two hours of an order being placed. Initially offered through 1,000 Walmart stores, Express delivery has since expanded to around 3,000 stores. Walmart’s corporate office says the service is available to at least 70% of the US population.
What Is Walmart Express Delivery?
As its name suggests, Walmart Express delivery is a fast, in-home delivery service for Walmart shoppers, who can choose from a huge inventory of perishable and nonperishable foods and consumables – a broad category that includes reusable and disposable consumer goods (think paper towels , soap, clothing, towels, etc.). Toys and electronics are also offered through Express delivery. Delivery items cost the same as they do in-store, and the same in-store sales and discounts apply. Walmart coupon codes can be applied at check-out.
How Much Does Walmart Express Delivery Cost?
Walmart Express delivery costs $ 10 per order. This is on top of the standard $ 7.95 to $ 9.95 delivery fee per order, so delivery winds up costing between $ 17.95 and $ 19.95 per order. Standard deliveries require a minimum order of $ 35, while Express delivery does not. Subscribers to Walmart +, the retailer’s paid membership program, pay only the $ 10 Express delivery fee, as standard delivery is included with their membership.
What Can You Order With Walmart Express Delivery?
The short answer is a whole lot of everything. There are roughly 180,000 items available for standard delivery, and much of it is available for Express delivery as well. Items include:
- A wide range of groceries including dried and canned goods, baked goods, fresh produce, meat, and dairy
- Sundry items like laundry and cleaning supplies, paper goods, disposable tableware
- Over-the-counter pharmacy items and personal care and beauty products
- Select clothing, shoes, and accessories
- Small appliances and electronics
Certain items may not be in stock or may be delivered later (usually within three days), but you’ll see that when you place your order. Delivery of beer, wine, and spirits depends on local and state liquor laws.
How to Use Walmart Express Delivery
Step 1: Login and Select a Delivery Option
At Walmart.com, create a new account or log in to your existing one. From the home page, in the “reserve pickup or delivery,” box, select “delivery” and then “see times,” and choose the Express delivery option if it’s available at your store and at the time you’re placing your order.
Step 2: Select Your Items
Fill your shopping cart with the items you need. Note that some products, especially non-food and consumable items, might not be available for Express delivery and may arrive as many as three days later. This is indicated under each item. Some products are not available for delivery at all.
Step 3: Complete Your Purchase
When you’re done shopping and have confirmed your items, click through to complete your purchase. You’ll be asked to select “Leave at my door” or “I’ll sign for my order,” before you proceed to payment.
