In recognition of Heart Awareness Month in February, the TRiCiTy Road Warriors and Poteet Rotary Club hosted the “Run with Your Heart” 5K and 1 Mile Run / Walk. The event was held at the Poteet Strawberry Festival Grounds on Saturday, Feb. 12. They all came together to embrace life and celebrate the gift of movement, for our hearts, emotional and spiritual well-being. The 2022 Ms. Heart was Tasha Meyer.

Forty-six participants braved the cold weather as they ran and walked through the strawberry grounds and the countryside. They had a special group of runners join the, The Angels, who use specialized wheelchairs to push disable athletes through the 5K course.

“It was amazing to see the faces of the wheelchair bound athletes express their joy crossing the finish line. It warms the heart to see such love displayed. The runners pushing the wheelchairs were the legs for the disabled athletes, ”said Diana Leal.

“A huge thanks goes out to the participants, sponsors, vendors and the Pleasanton Express for publishing our events. It is fitness made fun, ”added Leal.
